Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Doula?

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek word "doulē," meaning "female servant" or "woman who serves." Over time, the term has evolved to refer specifically to someone who supports another person through pregnancy, birth & postpartum.

What does a Doula do?

Doulas offer emotional, physical, and informational support, helping to create a positive birthing experience. It’s important to note that doulas do not provide medical care and do not replace healthcare providers; their role is to support the birthing person throughout the process.

Does a Doula replace my partner?

No, a doula does not replace the partner or birth partner. Instead, a doula works alongside them to provide additional support. The doula's role is to help enhance the experience for both the birthing person and their partner by offering guidance, information, and comfort techniques.
